Durban: Week 6 in the Creches

IMG_1552It feels very surreal to be announcing that we have now completed week 7. As a team we have continued to work hard this week, and are beginning to feel the strain. Several team members have been ill and exhausted, however we have had a very relaxing weekend and are now feeling refreshed for the upcoming week.

On Monday and Tuesday, we spent time in Little Noah’s Arc finishing the painting. It was a pleasure to see the delight on the owner’s face when she saw the completed ‘sea world’ and ‘jungle’ rooms. SF and A, who are working in that ECD centre have said that it has already made a difference to the atmosphere in the centre.

CIMG_1576IMCI lessons have been taught in most of the centres this week about kitchen safety. Furthermore, we have started to plan creative lessons to teach in our final two weeks. Sports and music have already been taught in Praise, and masks have been made in Disneyland. We have bought provisions to make playdough, decorate biscuits, and plant vegetables with the children, which we are very excited about! We hope that in running these lessons the teachers will be inspired to add variety to the curriculum, and that we will aid the development of the children.

IMG_1650Whilst doing paperwork, we have finished making teaching aids for all the ECD centres. We have also all written our individual case studies.
